Closure of the Year of Faith

Priests,  Sisters and Christians  convened at St. Joseph’s Cathedral for the Holy Mass  marking the end of the Year of Faith on 23 November. The principal celebrant was Archbishop Ignatius Chama, the Apostolic Administrator.

In a special mass presided over by the Apostolic Administrator, Archbishop Ignatius Chama, a multitude of women from all over the Diocese gathered in St.  Joseph’s Cathedral and presented a special gift to the ordinary.

Rain-Storm in Nabwalya

On Sunday the 24th November around 15 hrs a heavy rainstorm passed Nabwalya. So strong was the rain, that the area flooded immediately. This was accompanied by strong gusts of wind and a storm. So much rain in a very short time!

The wind took away the roof of Nabwalya school, as shown in the pictures below. Let’ s hope this rainy season will not bring more of these anomalies.

Zur Zeit ist es superheiß in Zambia. Mit den Freiwilligen Esther Ludwig und Joshua Hemcke sind wir nach Nabwalya gefahren. Es war superheiß, eine richtige Affenhitze, wie es auf dem Bild zu sehen ist. Ein köstlicher Anblick der sich uns da bot!

On 26th of October 2013 Archbishop Chama confirmed 14 Youth and 2 adults in Nabwalya at Our Lady of the Rosary Church. It was searing hot but very solemn when the faithful came forth to receive the sacrament of confirmation after a long preparation. The people of the Rift Valley received the bishop joyfully and thankfully enjoyed this great occasion.

Our project of Macadamia Nuts growing at the Bakhita Farm of the diocese is going well. The trees are growing fine and we have the first nuts coming up, see pictures above! there are also many flowers on the trees of the first batch, planted in 2009. We hope that in 2014 we will have a significant harvest.

New Theater and Laboratory at OLH

Friday 18 October 2013 saw the official opening and handing over of the new Theater and the new Laboratory for Chilonga Mission Hospital (Our Lady’s Hospital). The Minister of Health, Hon. Superintendant of Chilonga Mission Hospital thanked the government and all involved parties and promised that the buildings will go a long way in delivering better health services for Chilonga.

Fr. Chimpali, who represented Archbishop I. Chama, thanked also Lwanga Construction Ltd. for its good workmanship and commended the firm to all present.

After the official ceremony the guests went over to the school of midwifery for this year’s graduation.

Visiting the Bridge of Friendship in Ebringen

On September 6-8, we visited our long standing friends and trusted partners from the “Bruecke der Freundschaft” in Ebringen. The picture shows us together with Klaus Brachat and Fr. Erwin Rosner, near the grave of Cardinal Bea in Riedboehringen in the Bahr (Black-Forest area in Southern Germany).

We had a very nice time together and spoke about new and exciting projects for our diocese of Mpika. Thanks for the hospitality and continuous support.GermanyVisit13
