A Brief History

The Bishop Adolf Fürstenberg Trustfund

A brief history

Bishop Adolf Fürstenberg was working in Zambia as a missionary for over 50 years, from 1936 to 1987. He was Bishop of the diocese of Mbala-Mpika from 1959 to 1987. He created many new missions, but his main concern was the building of schools, hospitals and convents. He fostered the education and the training of qualified catechists.

He was helped in his work by his congregation, the Missionaries of Africa, better known as the White Fathers; help came also from his family and countless donors and beneficiaries from his hometown Iserlohn in Westphalen/Germany. Part of their contributions became the founding stock of the new trust fund. That is why we choose his name for the foundation.

To help and support the diocese of Mbala-Mpika in its daily work, Father Klaus Holzamer, a former treasurer of our diocese, has formed the Fürstenberg Foundation.
