THE YOUTH CELEBRATE THEIR DAY

From 25 to 28 April, 2018, the Youth from the 14 Parishes of the diocese gathered at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Chilonga to mark the annual Diocesan Youth Day. The culmination of the event was the Mass which was celebrated by the diocesan Bishop Rt. Rev. Justin Mulenga. The Bishop urged the Youth to strive for self reliance and promised to support them. After the Mass, the Youth prepared a luncheon in honor of the Bishop. The event was celebrated under the theme: “Remember your God in the days of your Youth.”

From 2 to 8 October 2017, 23 Diocesan Priests from Mpika diocese followed a Retreat under the guidance of Rev. Fr. Andrew Cenjerani Phiri of Chipata diocese. The annual spiritual event took place at the Benedictine monastery at Musipazi in Chipata.

20 LEAGUE MEMBERS BLOUSED AT THE CATHEDRAL

On Sunday, 30th July, 2017, at St. Joseph’s Cathedral in Mpika, 20 women received their uniform as official members of the Catholic Women’s League. The ceremony was presided over by the Diocesan Pastoral Coordinator, Rev. Fr. Stephen Mwenge. 165 league members from Mpika deanery witnessed the occasion. Mpika deanery League members met from from Wednesday to Sunday under the theme: “Who do people say that I am?” The blousing was the climax  and logical conclusion of the meeting. We wish the new members God’s choicest blessings!

BISHOP JUSTIN MULENGA ORDAINS THREE TO PRIESTHOOD

BISHOP MULENGA

On 17th June 2017, in Isoka, Rt. Rev. Justin Mulenga ordained three Deacons to the Priesthood. Frs. Katongo Bwalya, Kabwe Emmanuel and Mulenga Anthony have since been sent to Ilondola, Chilonga and Mulilansolo respectively. During his Homily, Bishop Mulenga urged the new priests to apply themselves with dedication in serving the people of God. He called on the new priests to emulate the spirit of the missionaries that came to Zambia 125 years ago by being courageous to preach the Gospel of Christ.

On Wednesday,12 April, 2017, the Lord’s Faithful with their priests gathered to re-enact and re-live the Jewish Matzah meal. It was a the first time the parish had organized such an event and was appreciated by many people.

On thursday, 6th April, 2017, Rt. Rev. Justin Mulenga blessed the Holy Oils during the Chrism Mass at St. Joseph’s Cathedral Parish in Mpika. During the same occasion, the clergy of Mpika diocese renewed their priestly promises before the Bishop.

The actual day of Chrism Mass was preceeded by a day of Prayer preached by Fr. Martin Mwango under the theme: “Being compassionate like Jesus our Lord.” He urged the clergy to be moved by the needs of the Lord’s faithful and also their fellow priests.

The beginning of October was not a good one for Chilonga Nursing school, as fire gutted the whole Midwifery school, leaving it in ashes. This led to subsequent closure of the institution. As a result of this unfortunate event, the Institution has opened an account with Bank ABC to rebuilt the school that has benefitted many young men and women. Our health matters, therefore, let us offer support to this school that has been contributing positively to quality health care delivery in Zambia

On Friday, 28th October 2016, the Bishop, Priests, Religious men and women, the Lord’s faithful, Government dignitaries, traditional leaders and people of good will converged at Chilonga in Mpika to celebrate diamond jubilee of Our Lady’s General Hospital. 60 years down the line, Chilonga had every reason to thank the Lord for the Lord’s favour in providing uninterrupted service of Love to the community of Chilonga and the larger family of Mpika District.
